The city is part of the&nbsp;Seattle metropolitan area&nbsp;and is located 16 miles (26&nbsp;km) north of&nbsp;Seattle&nbsp;and 13 miles (21&nbsp;km) south of&nbsp;Everett, near the junction of&nbsp;Interstate 5&nbsp;and&nbsp;Interstate 405. It is the fourth-largest city in Snohomish County, with a population of 35,836 in the&nbsp;2010 U.S. census.
Lynnwood is a&nbsp;suburban&nbsp;bedroom community&nbsp;for Seattle, Everett and&nbsp;Bellevue. It has one of the largest concentrations of retailers in the region, anchored by the&nbsp;Alderwood Mall&nbsp;and businesses along major streets. The city also has a&nbsp;community college, a&nbsp;convention center, and a major&nbsp;transit center, located in the developing&nbsp;city center.
The Lynnwood area was logged and settled by&nbsp;homesteaders&nbsp;in the late 19th century and early 20th century, including the development of&nbsp;Alderwood Manor&nbsp;as a planned farming community. Lynnwood, named for the wife of a realtor, emerged in the late 1940s around the intersection of&nbsp;Highway 99&nbsp;and 196th Street Southwest. The city was&nbsp;incorporated&nbsp;on April 23, 1959, and grew into a suburban hub in the years following the completion of Interstate 5 and Interstate 405. Alderwood Mall opened in 1979 and spurred the transformation of eastern Lynnwood into a retail and office district.

Edmonds is a city in Snohomish County, Washington, United States. It is located in the southwest corner of the county, facing Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains to the west. The city is part of the Seattle metropolitan area and is located 15 miles (24 km) north of Seattle and 18 miles (29 km) southwest of Everett. With a population of 39,709 residents in the 2010 U.S. census, Edmonds is the third most populous city in the county. The estimated population in 2019 was 42,605. Edmonds was established in 1876 by logger George Brackett, who bought the land claim of an earlier settler. It was incorporated as a city in 1890, shortly before the arrival of the Great Northern Railway. Early residents of the city were employed by the shingle mills and logging companies that operated in the area until the 1950s. The hills surrounding Edmonds were developed into suburban bedroom communities in the mid-to-late 20th century and subsequently annexed into the city. Edmonds is a regional hub for the arts, with museums, specialized facilities, and major annual festivals within the city's downtown area. The city is connected to nearby areas by two state highways and the state ferry system, which operates a ferry route to Kingston on the Kitsap Peninsula. Mill Creek is a city in Snohomish County, Washington, United States. It is located between the cities of Everett and Lynnwood, approximately 20 miles (32 km) northeast of Seattle. The city has a population of 18,244 as of the 2010 census, and is estimated to have over 20,000 residents as of 2018. The city lies along State Route 527 and North Creek, a tributary of the Sammamish River, on the east side of Interstate 5. The city is one of the wealthiest suburbs in the Seattle metropolitan area and was originally a planned community conceived in the 1970s. The planned development was centered around a country club and golf course, with other development occurring nearby in later phases. It was incorporated as a city in 1983, shortly after the completion of the first phase of development, and underwent major population growth due to continued suburban development and annexation of nearby areas. The city's downtown area is centered around the Mill Creek Town Center, a mixed-use lifestyle center and retail complex that opened in 2004.

<li>Anderson School&nbsp;is a former junior high school that currently operates as a renovated restaurant, bar, and hotel, operated by the&nbsp;McMenamins&nbsp;family chain.</li>
<li>Canyon Creek is the residential area east of Canyon Park and south of Maltby Road, with two elementary schools Canyon Creek Elementary, and&nbsp;Skyview Junior High School. The schools are part of the&nbsp;Northshore School District.</li>
<li>Canyon Park is a commercial and business district at the junction of Bothell-Everett Highway and Interstate 405, with several restaurants, shops, and grocery stores, along with several major employers.</li>
<li>Downtown Bothell, north of Bothell Way on the north side of the&nbsp;Sammamish River, was an area originally settled by pioneers. It contains a business district along Main Street, and several blocks of residences at the foot of Beckstrom Hill. It also contains city hall and the police station, the Bothell Library, and&nbsp;Pop Keeney Stadium.</li>
<li>Fitzgerald is a southern extension of Canyon Park containing Canyon Park Junior High.</li>
<li>The Highlands is a neighborhood right next to Canyon Park Junior High.</li>
<li>Lake Pleasant/Country Village is the area bordering the wooded and winding portion of Bothell-Everett Highway between downtown and Canyon Park. Lake Pleasant hosts an RV park, and Country Village was an outdoor shopping center that opened in 1981 and closed in 2019.</li>
<li>Maywood/Beckstrom Hill is a residential neighborhood on the hill north of downtown, and is the location of Maywood Hills Elementary School, Heritage Christian Academy and St. Brendan's Parish School.</li>
<li>North Creek, named for Bothell's second-largest waterway, is a business and light industrial district and community with several large big box retail stores, and the production facility for the&nbsp;Seattle Times. The&nbsp;North Creek Forest&nbsp;is recently established protected area in this neighborhood. The residential part of North Creek extends to the beginning of the Everett School District and includes Fernwood Elementary and North Creek High School. Much of it is outside of Bothell city limits.</li>
<li>Norway Hill is a residential neighborhood overlooking downtown from the south. Since 2014 all of Norway hill is within the Bothell city limits.</li>
<li>Pioneer Hills is a residential community on the hills east of North Creek that borders Woodinville, and contains Woodin Elementary School.</li>
<li>Queensgate is a residential neighborhood along Brickyard Road, south of the Sammamish River and adjacent to nearby Woodinville.</li>
<li>Mays Pond is a residential neighborhood just north of the Bothell's city limits containing Woodside and Cedar Wood Elementary Schools.</li>
<li>Queensborough/Brentwood is a residential neighborhood west and north of Canyon Park, containing Frank Love Elementary School and Wallace Swamp Creek Park.</li>
<li>Riverfront, south of Bothell Way and mostly along the south side of the river near Riverside Drive, contains Sammamish River Park, Blyth Park, several residences, and the Northshore Senior Center.</li>
<li>Waynita is a residential neighborhood along Waynita Way between Wayne Curve and nearby Juanita. The former Wayne Golf Course, now a city-owned parkland, is in Waynita.</li>
<li>Westhill is a mid-20th century residential expansion on the hill to the west of downtown, and includes&nbsp;Bothell High School&nbsp;and Westhill Elementary School.</li>
<li>Shelton View is a residential neighborhood north of Westhill in Snohomish County containing Shelton View Elementary.</li>

Seattle, a city on Puget Sound in the Pacific Northwest, is surrounded by water, mountains and evergreen forests, and contains thousands of acres of parkland. Washington State&rsquo;s largest city, it&rsquo;s home to a large tech industry, with Microsoft and Amazon headquartered in its metropolitan area. The futuristic Space Needle, a 1962 World&rsquo;s Fair legacy, is its most iconic landmark.
Seattle has a history of boom-and-bust cycles, like many other cities near areas of extensive natural and mineral resources. Seattle has risen several times economically, then gone into precipitous decline, but it has typically used those periods to rebuild solid infrastructure.
The first such boom, covering the early years of the city, rode on the lumber industry. During this period the road now known as Yesler Way won the nickname "Skid Road," supposedly after the timber skidding down the hill to Henry Yesler's sawmill. The later dereliction of the area may be a possible origin for the term which later entered the wider American lexicon as Skid Row. Like much of the American West, Seattle saw numerous conflicts between labor and management, as well as ethnic tensions that culminated in the anti-Chinese riots of 1885&ndash;1886. This violence originated with unemployed whites who were determined to drive the Chinese from Seattle (anti-Chinese riots also occurred in Tacoma). In 1900, Asians were 4.2% of the population. Authorities declared martial law and federal troops arrived to put down the disorder.
Seattle had achieved sufficient economic success that when the Great Seattle Fire of 1889 destroyed the central business district, a far grander city-center rapidly emerged in its place. Finance company Washington Mutual, for example, was founded in the immediate wake of the fire. However, the Panic of 1893 hit Seattle hard.

Woodinville is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 10,938 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. There is also a much larger population with Woodinville mailing addresses in adjacent unincorporated areas of King (Cottage Lake) and Snohomish (Maltby) counties. Woodinville has waterfront parks on the Sammamish River, sweeping winery and brewery grounds, and densely wooded residential areas.

Everett is the county seat of and the largest city in Snohomish County, Washington, United States. It is 25 miles (40 km) north of Seattle and is one of the main cities in the metropolitan area and the Puget Sound region. Everett is the seventh-largest city in the state by population, with 103,019 residents at the 2010 census. The city is primarily situated on a peninsula at the mouth of the Snohomish River along Port Gardner Bay, an inlet of Possession Sound (itself part of Puget Sound), and extends to the south and west. The Port Gardner Peninsula was historically inhabited by the Snohomish people, who had a winter village named Hibulb near the mouth of the river. Modern settlement in the area began with loggers and homesteaders arriving in the 1860s, but plans to build a city were not conceived until 1890. A consortium of East Coast investors seeking to build a major industrial city acquired land in the area and filed a plat for "Everett", which they named in honor of Everett Colby, the son of investor Charles L. Colby. The city was incorporated in 1893, shortly after the arrival of the Great Northern Railway, and prospered as a major lumber center with several large sawmills. Everett became the county seat in 1897 after a dispute with Snohomish contested over several elections and a Supreme Court case. The city was the site of labor unrest during the 1910s, which culminated in the Everett massacre in 1916 that killed several members of the Industrial Workers of the World. The area was connected by new interurban railways and highway bridges in the 1920s, transforming it into a major commercial hub, and gained an airport at Paine Field in 1936. The city's economy transitioned away from lumber and towards aerospace after World War II, with the construction of Boeing's aircraft assembly plant at Paine Field in 1967. Boeing's presence brought additional industrial and commercial development to Everett, as well as new residential neighborhoods to the south and west of the peninsula that was annexed by the city. Boeing remains the city's largest employer, alongside the U.S. Navy, which has operated Naval Station Everett since 1994. Everett remains a major employment center for Snohomish County, but has also become a bedroom community for Seattle in recent decades. It is connected to Seattle by Interstate 5 and various public transit services at Everett Station, including the Sounder commuter train, Amtrak, and commuter buses. Everett stages several annual festivals and is also home to minor league sports teams, including the Everett Silvertips at Angel of the Winds Arena.

Kirkland is a city in King County, Washington, United States. A suburb east of Seattle, its population was 93,010 in a 2019 census estimate, which made it the sixth largest city in the county and the thirteenth largest in the state. The city's downtown waterfront has restaurants, art galleries, a performing arts center, public parks, beaches, and a collection of public art, primarily bronze sculptures. Kirkland was the original home of the Seattle Seahawks; the NFL team's headquarters and training facility were located at the Lake Washington Shipyard (now Carillon Point) along Lake Washington for their first ten seasons (1976&ndash;85), then at nearby Northwest University through 2007. Warehouse chain Costco previously had its headquarters in Kirkland. While Costco is now headquartered in Issaquah, the city is the namesake of its "Kirkland Signature" store brand.

Bellevue is a city in Washington state, across Lake Washington from Seattle. Downtown Park has a large lawn, gardens and a waterfall. Bellevue lies between&nbsp;Lake Washington&nbsp;to the west and the smaller&nbsp;Lake Sammamish&nbsp;to the east. Much of Bellevue is drained by the&nbsp;Kelsey Creek&nbsp;watershed, whose source is located in the Larsen Lake and&nbsp;Phantom Lake&nbsp;green belt&nbsp;and whose outlet is near where&nbsp;Interstate 90&nbsp;meets Lake Washington's eastern shore. The city is bisected by&nbsp;Interstate 405&nbsp;running north&ndash;south, and the southern portion is crossed from west to east by Interstate 90. The&nbsp;State Route 520&nbsp;freeway roughly delineates the upper reaches of Bellevue.
According to the&nbsp;United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 36.47 square miles (94.46&nbsp;km2), of which 31.97 square miles (82.80&nbsp;km2) is land and 4.50 square miles (11.65&nbsp;km2) is water. The city's name is derived from a&nbsp;French&nbsp;term for "beautiful view". Under favorable weather conditions, scenic vistas of the&nbsp;Olympic Mountains&nbsp;and&nbsp;Cascade Mountains can be viewed from hilltops (and strategically positioned high-rise buildings) within the incorporated city. South of I-90, the city continues up&nbsp;Cougar Mountain, at the top of which is an unincorporated King County location called Hilltop. To the west of Cougar Mountain, Bellevue includes the&nbsp;Coal Creek, Somerset, and&nbsp;<a href="\" title="Factoria, Bellevue">Factoria</a>&nbsp;neighborhoods.
Bellevue is bordered by the cities of&nbsp;Kirkland&nbsp;to the north and&nbsp;Redmond&nbsp;to the northeast along the&nbsp;Overlake&nbsp;and&nbsp;Crossroads&nbsp;neighborhoods. Across the short&nbsp;East Channel Bridge, I-90 connects Bellevue to&nbsp;Mercer Island&nbsp;to the southwest.&nbsp;Issaquah&nbsp;is to the east, down I-90 at the south end of Lake Sammamish. The city is bordered to the west by many affluent suburbs such as&nbsp;Medina,&nbsp;Clyde Hill,&nbsp;Hunts Point&nbsp;and&nbsp;Yarrow Point. The south end of Bellevue is bordered by the city of&nbsp;Renton, and to the southeast, the relatively recently incorporated city of&nbsp;Newcastle.

Redmond is a city in King County, Washington, United States, located 15 miles (24 km) east of Seattle. The population was 54,144 at the 2010 census and an estimated 71,929 in 2019. Redmond is commonly recognized as the home of Microsoft and Nintendo of America. With an annual bike race on city streets and the state's only velodrome, Redmond is also known as the "Bicycle Capital of the Northwest".

It is located between the city limits of Seattle and the Snohomish County border, approximately 9 miles (14 km) north of Downtown Seattle. Snohomish has a downtown district that is renowned for its collection of antique shops and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The mayor of Snohomish is John T. Kartak and the city administrator is Steve Schuller.

Kenmore is a city in King County, Washington, United States, along the northernmost shore of Lake Washington. It is a suburban bedroom community that is located at the mouth of the Sammamish River, approximately 12 miles (19 km) northeast of Seattle and 2 miles (3.2 km) west of Bothell. The city's population was 20,460 at the 2010 census. Kenmore is also home to the Kenmore Air Harbor, the largest seaplane-only passenger facility of its kind in the United States. The city is connected to nearby areas by State Route 522 and the Burke-Gilman Trail, which both run east&ndash;west along the lakeshore. The city limits stretch north to the Snohomish County line and south to a border with Kirkland south of Saint Edward State Park and Bastyr University.
